attacking other clans that aren't in our alliance

Hello all, ran into the following last night:

Hi Joel,

one of our members said you just Iced him {TA} Joe Kingpin. Any specific reason why?

I replied:

Jason-

Not sure if you guys are with the [BUR] alliance or not but the only group I have listed is {MWTA}. To me that is a different alliance and that is why he got iced.

To which he said:

Joel, Most clans have a rule about attacking other Tagged members. I know {TA} does. Guess your clan might not. I returned the Icing for you.

Isn't what he is saying kind of defeating the purpose of an alliance? Just because you carry around a tag doesn't mean that you'll be free and clear of any attacks from all other clans. Just thought I'd put this out there.
